Two sides to the same story : Linspire are releasing a freely-available, freely-distributable, community-led, Debian-based Linux distribution ( sound familiar ?) to be called Freespire . Linspire's edge is that they will distribute non-free drivers, such as for nVidia or ATi graphics cards, as part of the core distribution, and not from optional repositories a […]
Planet OpenVAS is open for business!
The Clan #lugradio Maps site has been updated with new download locations for the maps, and a shell script to assist Linux users (and Windows users running Cygwin I suppose) in keeping their clan maps up-to-date. The script defaults to downloading to ~/.etwolf/etmain , so if you've changed that from the default, make sure that […]
At last, someone at Google has realised something that I and others have known about for ages: it takes ages to install applications on Windows because everything is disparate and has its own installer. Quick entry before I head off to work. Yeah, to work, I'm no longer working from home. Most people who know me know this already, but I left SmoothWall Ltd. last month to work in sysadmin at Lumison , formerly edNET, an Edinburgh-based ISP. As my post to the SmoothWall community says, it was just […]
Macbeth , Act V, Scene III : "It is a tale / Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, / Signifying nothing." DaimlerChrysler Corporation's Reply Brief in Support of its Motion for Summary Disposition : "At bottom, SCO's arguments, though full of sound and fury, serve only to demonstrate that summary disposition should […]
I haven't been blogging much lately, so I haven't tapped out some of the stuff I've been up to. One of those things was to sit two (cheap) Linux Professional Institute exams in the middle of last month. Net Resources through in Edinburgh were getting themselves organised to be the first LPI certification exam provider […]
